Should You Adopt A Second Cat?

Loved ones have been telling you for months that you should adopt another cat. Fluffy needs a friend, right? But is this really a good idea? Is a second furry member of the family the best thing for your home? Before you make a final decision, it’s important to do your research.

Take Your Cat’s Age and Personality under Consideration

If Fluffy is an older cat that

has always been the only animal in the home, you may run into trouble if you try to introduce a second animal. Additionally, an older cat may not be able to deal with a kitten or otherwise rambunctious companion. Is Fluffy prone to anxiety or shyness? Giving her a friend won’t necessarily fix the situation – it could make things worse. Keep this information in the front of your mind while you go through the motions.

Think About Space Available In Your Home

Do

you live in a small apartment? There may not be enough room for two cats to live comfortably. You don’t want Fluffy to feel like her world is being invaded. She needs to feel safe and happy, and a new cat could rattle her chains. However, if you live in a large home with more than enough space for everyone, you will be at an advantage.

Realize That Changes Will Be Necessary

Don’t walk into the situation thinking things will run smoothly. Everyone will have to make adjustments and develop a different routine.
