Is Your Dog Getting Enough Exercise?

Keeping your pet happy and healthy can be a frustrating and difficult task at times. Some problems are hidden and may not surface until it’s too late to do anything. You could look at your active dog and never guess that he needs to get more exercise. So how do you make sure that Fido is in top shape? Check out the tips below and give your family a good starting point.

Take Them to the Park

Don’t let him nap on the couch all day. If you have a park near your home that allows off-leash animals, take him there for some afternoon fun. Lincoln Parks and Recreation offers dog friendly parks all over town and two dog parks Oak Lake Dog Park and Rickmans Run/Holmes Lake Dog Park. Play fetch or run around with him. Let him socialize with other dogs, but be sure to exercise caution. Don’t forget to pack water and snacks! Don’t forget the doggie bags!

Go For Walks When You Can

Its fine to let Fido get some exercise in your yard, but you should also take him for daily walks. Even a short stroll down the street can make a difference. If you have to take him out at night, make sure you and your dog are easy to see by drivers, cyclists, and other individuals.

Make Sure you’re Not Overdoing It

Certain breeds require a certain amount of exercise. Too much exercise can lead to overexertion. Before you make any significant changes to Fido’s exercise regimen, talk to your vet as soon as you can. He or she will be able to help you work out a plan that benefits your fur baby.
